TRACEY Kennedy will create history at the Cork County Board GAA Convention next month when she will be elected the first ever female chairperson of the organisation.

The Killeagh native is the only nomination for the position and as a result, she will now join a distinguished list of personnel who have held this very high office.

County Board PRO, Donal Leahy and Cultural Officer Jerry Walsh have also been returned unopposed and will continue for another year.

However, there’s a strong likelihood that there will be contests for a number of other positions on the Executive, most notably the Vice-Chair and Treasurer.

There are three nominations for the vice-chair, Richard Murphy, Noel O’Callaghan and Kevin O’Donovan, all current officers in different positions.

There are five nominations to succeed Pearse Murphy as Treasurer, John Feeney from Dripsey, Diarmuid Gowen, Fermoy, Kieran McGann, Castlelyons, John O’Flynn, Freemount and Marc Sheehan, Aghabullogue.

There are five nominations too for the position of Development Officer being vacated by Richard Murphy and they are, Des Cullinane, Jim Hanley, Pat Horgan, Tony McAuliffe and Sean McCarthy.

It’s a similar situation for the Coaching Officer position to succeed Kevin O’Donovan who has completed his three-year stint.

The five are Ronan Dwane, Brian Lotty, Leo Lowney, Cian O’Brien and Shane Supple.

The closing date for withdrawals is next Monday night, November 13.

Meanwhile, new Cork hurling boss, John Meyler is expected to finalise his backroom team in the near future and he will also put in place his preliminary squad.

Former Cork captain, Kieran ‘Fraggie’ Murphy from Sarsfields and Bishopstown’s Donal O’Mahony are being heavily linked to selectorial roles.

There will also be a number of new faces on the squad with a couple being omitted as well from the the 2017 list.

Cork face a very heavy schedule in 2018, beginning on December 30 with the start of the Munster League when the emphasis is likely to be on experimentation.
