CORK’S Alan Browne was the big winner at Preston’s end-of-season awards.

The Irishman won the Players’ Player, Sir Tom Finney Player of the Year, and Goal of the Season gongs, immediately following the 2-1 win over Burton, on the final day of the season. It was a breakthrough season for him.

The former Ringmahon Rangers and Cork City playmaker has been a key man for Alex Neil, scoring nine goals from the middle of the park, as North End finished seventh in the Championship.

The awards were voted for by his teammates, who include former City players Seani Maguire, Kevin O'Connor and Daryl Horgan, and by the fans, as well as for his 45-yard strike in the 3-0 win over Cardiff, back in September.

Preston North End and Alan Browne did everything possible on the final day of the Championship season to secure a play-off spot to gain promotion to the Premier League.

They scored a stoppage-time winner, through Louis Moult, to secure a 2-1 win over Burton Albion, but, unfortunately, it wasn’t enough, as Derby County’s 4-1 thrashing of Barnsley meant that Preston North End missed out on a play-off spot by two points.
