MIDLETON were crowned Beamish Stout Senior Premier Division champions after their 2-1 win over the 2017 champions UCC in Knockgriffin last night.

Goals from Jake Hegarty and Kevin Krushell gave the hosts a two-goal lead and despite a College response from Garan Manley, who hails from the town, they held on to claim the title.

It was a magnificent achievement for Mark Duggan, assistant John Ryan and the rest of the management team and players, having won promotion last season.

Midleton had a three-point lead over title rivals Avondale and were four ahead of Cobh Wanderers heading into last night’s penultimate leagues games.

It was expected that this title race would go down to the final series of games, but Avondale’s 2-2 draw with College Corinthians and Cobh’s 2-0 defeat away to Rockmount, courtesy of two goals from Adam Lee Reynolds, meant Midleton were presented with the league trophy on their own turf.
