FROM White Hart Lane, Upton Park, Fratton Park and the Dell to the home of one of Cork’s most decorated GAA clubs in West Cork, five-time county SFC winners Castlehaven.

That’s the next chapter in the illustrious managerial career of Harry Redknapp who is taking charge of the Haven for a one-off game as part of a new mini-series, AIB’s The Toughest Rivalry.

Redknapp will be donning the bainisteoir’s bib to go up against former Chelsea player and team boss Gianluca Vialli who will take charge of Dublin club, Erin’s Isle from Finglas.

The sides faced each other in the 1998 All-Ireland club semi-final which ended on a very controversial note.

Dublin star Charlie Redmond had been shown a red card with 13 minutes remaining and the Haven were leading by two points going into the game’s dying moments.

However, Erin’s Isle forward Niall Crossan then struck a shot that hit both posts and came back out. But a goal was given handing the Dubliners a one-point win over the then Munster champions.

The Haven are adamant to this day that the ball did not cross the line, but the Dublin champions prevailed.

Redknapp is delighted with his new role alongside the Chelsea legend.

“I have been here in a little village in West Cork called Castlehaven and I have had a fantastic few days.

“It’s a beautiful part of the world, great people and it’s been great.

“I took a trip out to London GAA Centre last week before coming over to see what it was all about and I am delighted to get the opportunity to come to Ireland and learn more about the GAA.”

The series will be screened in the summer.
