TWO Corkmen John Kavanagh and John O'Flynn played their part in helping a famous Donegal side achieve promotion back to the top flight of Irish football.
Finn Harps will be playing in the League of Ireland Premier Division in the 2019 season. They were well-deserved and convincing winners 3-0 on aggregate over Limerick in the promotion/relegation playoff.
John Kavanagh went on loan to Harps from Cork City in the middle of the season and has added to the quality of Ollie Horgan’s side.
“I came up in July and have enjoyed every single moment of it really,” said Kavanagh on Highland Radio. “That just topped it off. It is great for the club, great for the fans and great for everyone involved.
“The way I was looking at it was the playoffs really. But as we gained momentum through the season towards the end, we had UCD in our sights.
“We fell a bit short, but I felt we showed over the second half of the season how good we are.
“It’s been a pleasure. The journeys up to Ballybofey have been long. But they have seemed shorter being a part of this group.”
As for plans for the 2019 season, Kavanagh said: “I think a lot of players in the League of Ireland don’t know what’s happening.
“But it was great to be a part of something like last Friday night and it was great to finish the season off on a high.
“So let’s see what the next few weeks bring,” he said.
Another Corkman who was very much a part of the Finn Harps promotion success was Cork City legend John O’Flynn.
“It’s great what it means to people at Harps.
“Ollie will have good experience to build for next year,” he said.
