GLANMIRE manager, Dave Carey, was almost speechless at what his side had achieved in capturing an All-Ireland title.

The long journey home from Ballinasloe was no bother to the East Cork outfit after a 1-22 to 3-11 defeat of Tourlestrane, emulating Aghada's achievements in 2017.

They were outstanding from start to finish as they got the better of the quality Sligo champions. Up front they were led by Player of the Game, Kate Hannon and Niamh McAllen, with Abbie O’Mahony and Ally McCarthy also in top form.

It was extra-special for Carey as his daughter, Ava, was their keeper who made a number of crucial saves to ensure them emerged as winners.

“That was just typical of the way we play football, we just never say never. We keep going and going and they are a squad of 30 and any one of them can come on and you see it there we brought on a few subs and it made no difference.

“We have a style of play, we go, we attack and attack and it paid off for us today. We got 1-22 today and very few of them were from frees (five points) and it shows the style and way they play and they deserve massive credit for it.

“They are made of brilliant stuff and they have overcome any obstacle thrown in their way and today was their reward for that.

“But there is a special bond between them all and they are brilliant. They are a young side and they plan to be around for a while yet and look out, here come Glanmire.

“I suppose I’m very biased when it comes to our keeper as she is my daughter but she made a number of crucial saves for us today.

“When they were threating to come back at us they kept us well in front and they were crucial moments to help us land the title.

“They are All-Ireland champions and they deserve every bit of praise they will get and I am sure they will celebrate this one for some time.

“Considering the club was only founded 18 years ago this is an unbelievable success. We won the Junior B county last year, the Junior A this year and hopefully, this is going to lead to bigger and better things for the club.

“As I said they are a very young side and watch out because here come Glanmire,” concluded Dave.
