Mardyke Arena takes top prize at Irish fitness awards

THE Mardyke Arena UCC has been picked as the Best Gym in Munster and Overall in Ireland at the Health & Fitness Industry Awards.

These awards come on the back of what has been a whirlwind few weeks for UCC sport.

They completed the first Sigerson-Fitzgibbon cup double in 31 years, while the soccer team defeated UL in the Collingwood Cup to clinch their 14th win in the competition. The College also extended its partnership with Cork City FC and launched an ambitious Sports Strategy for 2019-2022, with plans to developing a new UCC Sports Park in Curraheen.

The Nutramino Health & Fitness Awards recognise outstanding contributions and innovation from Ireland’s fitness professionals, facilities and community engagement initiatives. The ceremony was hosted by Munster rugby legend Alan Quinlan.

The Mardyke Arena UCC overcame stiff competition to take home both the provincial and national title, which was voted by the public.

Patsy Ryan, General Manager at the Mardyke Arena, UCC, was thrilled to take the top prize. 

“We are delighted to have been awarded the Best Gym in Munster and Ireland at the National Awards Ceremony. It is fantastic, not only to be recognised regionally but also nationally as the best gym.

"We are extremely proud to have wonderful members, great staff and fantastic facilities that cater for both the Students & Staff of University College Cork and the community at large. This award is a testament to our facilities and everyone involved.” 

The Arena who are no strangers to awards and are the first University Sports facility in the World to hold four international standards – ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001 & OHSAS 18001.
