AVONDALE United will be heading to the Aviva Stadium on May 11 to contest the final of the FAI Intermediate Cup.
Goals from Mark O’Sullivan and Danny O’Connell were enough to secure victory in the end for the hosts and fend off a battling Rockmount effort.
Avondale are now just 90 minutes away from securing Intermediate Cup glory for the eighth time.
Standing in their way are Crumlin United, who defeated the current holders Maynooth University Town in the other semi-final clash.
Speaking to The Echo after his side’s well-earned victory, Avondale manager Ken Bruton was bursting with pride and said this was a victory to cherish for everyone involved at all levels with the club.
“That was our goal when we started the season. This has been eight months of hard work. It was a credit to everybody collectively what the group.
“You could see the togetherness today with the squad.
“Today you could see people from our U8 up, ex-players who coach teams.
“This win is bigger than just for my group of players. This is for everyone in the club.
“It is a fantastic prize to play at the Aviva Stadium.
“To bring that into the competition a few years ago was a great idea.
“It really gives people a goal to aspire to. Our guys are going to look forward to it and it is a pitch that will suit us actually.
“If you go into the kitchen inside the Avondale clubhouse you will see the pictures up of the past Intermediate Cup wins.
“There is a few guys in our dressing room that have won the Intermediate Cup.
"But there is a few guys who haven’t and that is what we want, we want everyone in there to sample that feeling of joy.”
