Clona Blazes to glory at Dublin classic
Lorraine Archibold presents the trophy to Kevin O'Brien after Clona Blaze won the final of the Ladbrokes Easter Cup at Shelbourne Park.

CLONA BLAZE, owned by Kevin O’Brien, Clonakilty, completed an incredible unbeaten run through the 2019 Ladbrokes Easter Cup with a typical front-running display in Saturday’s €25,000 decider at Shelbourne.

In an open betting race, last year’s Derby third, Clona Blaze was sent to traps as the 5-2 market leader.

After flying from traps, Clona Blaze was soon in the perfect position.

Droopys Davy displayed fine early speed to move second before the turn, but he was almost three lengths behind the leader. Holland’s other runner, one of three finalists, Clonbrien Prince began to chase the leader down before the third turn.

Clona Blaze wasn’t stopping up front, brave off the final corners, he held his fast-finishing kennel-mate by a neck, in a flying, 29.37, to make it a one-two for Graham Holland. Droopys Davy was a further three lengths down in third.

Clona Blaze has now won a little over €48,000 in prize money.
