GARY BOYLAN is set to make his Cork City debut in tonight’s Munster Senior Cup final against Midleton, his first game of football in nine months.

The former Sligo Rovers man has been out since suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury last June but, having worked his way back to fitness, the Mayo native is one of a number of players set to be included.

With a busy schedule of ten league games in 36 days beginning with next Friday’s trip to Dundalk, City manager John Caulfield is using the break in Premier Division action to assess his squad options by resting those who have featured to date.

Along with Boylan, goalkeeper Tadhg Ryan is due to make his first appearance since the semi-final win over Cobh Ramblers in early February while Ronan Hurley, Kevin O’Connor and Garry Comerford are others likely to be given starts.

However, Caulfield knows that Midleton, who have former City men Kevin Murray, Ray Lally and Danny Morrissey in their ranks, won’t be an easy proposition.

“Midleton are a good team, they went far in the FAI Intermediate Cup this year and won the senior league last year,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for them but it’s also a great opportunity for us.

"We want to win and retain the cup but there’ll be chances for the boys who’ve been on the bench over the last few weeks, they’ll get game-time as well.

“We’ve had a number of lads who’ve been out injured, Gary Boylan, Alan Bennett and Seán McLoughlin, so they’ll play.

"Tadhg Ryan needs some game-time but as well as that you’ve all the boys who’ve been coming off the bench, they’ll get to start too.

“We need to give a top performance and all week we’ve been planning to do that.”
