Midleton U16s drive into the last four of the National Cup

Midleton regained the lead in the 35th minute when a 35-yard wind assisted free kick from Fintan Cody went over the head of Egan and into the net as the home side went in at the break 2-1 up.

In the second half, Mervue, the wind now behind them, pressed for the equaliser with even their keeper attempting a long-range shot on goal which went wide of the target. Chances fell to Mervue’s Joshua O’Connor and Tom Kidd without success, but in the 66th minute, Midleton put the game beyond doubt when Jack Dawson stabbed the ball into the net following a goalmouth scramble as the home side were now 3-1 up with time running out for the Tribesmen.
