Cork 2-9 Kerry 1-4

TWO second-half goals from Nicole Crean put Cork on their way to retaining the Munster junior camogie title at Cashel on Saturday.

Up to then the game had been close as the Cork side were finding it difficult to shake off a resilient Kerry side. At half-time the sides were level, and with Cork having played with the wind in the first-half, the possibility of an upset was on the cards.

But Cork upped their game and with Crean dominating up front and Christine O’Neill in control at the back they started to take control. Afterwards manager, Donal Daly, was full of praise for his side.

“It was a great win and for a lot of the game it was tight, but Nicole’s first goal turned it in our favour. She took the game by the scruff of the neck and drove us on.

“At the back we tightened up, with Christime O’Neill using all her experience to lead by example at the back. I have been involved with the junior side for four years and we have managed to win this title three times and it was great to see Cork complete the Munster triple (junior, intermediate and senior) titles again this year.”

Kerry got the perfect start when Julieanne O’Keeffe opened the scoring. Lucy Wallace and O’Neill, from a free, responded for Cork, before frees from Patrice Diggin and Sara Murphy made it 1-2 to 0-2 to Kerry.

Wallace hit Cork’s third point and scores from Emma Murphy and Crean had the sides level at half-time.

Crean levelled it, with 40 minutes gone, with O’Sullivan putting the holders in front. With 48 minutes gone Crean got her first goal, from a free.

Diggin pulled a point back from a free, but Crean got her second goal and added two late points.
