Courcey Rovers 6-23 Milford 0-5

COURCEY Rovers were totally convincing victors over Milford on Tuesday evening in this Cork Camogie Senior Championship first-round encounter.

This was a dominant display from Courceys, a side who reached the final last year.

Courceys had the impressive Cork minor dual star Fiona Keating in red-hot scoring form throughout the hour or so of action.

Keating netted for the opening goal of the game for her side with five minutes played, putting the finishing touches to a well-worked team move. She got her second goal of the evening not awfully long afterward with a clinical strike.

It was Courceys that were winning the crucial battles, with Linda Collins also splitting the posts with some well-taken scores.

Keating blasted the ball home once more to complete her hat-trick with just 18 minutes on the clock.

Milford, who had four-time All-Ireland camogie winner with Cork Ashling Thompson in their ranks, were coming up second best and could not contain the opposing attacks.

Further scores from Ellen Maguire, Collins and Keating left Courceys with a 3-8 to 0-4 advantage at the half time break.

It was a case of picking up where they left off from a Courcey Rovers perspective in the second half.

Collins added to her tally, which included successfully finding the back of the net. Keating also was to find the net for a fourth occasion in the contest, when she broke with pace towards the posts before finishing with a powerful effort.

Milford, who got further scores from Thompson, Eimear O’Gorman and Sarah Sheehan on the night, will have to dust themselves down and go again in the backdoor and round two.

Courceys capped off a dominant display and got two final scores for the evening from their very clinical pair of Keating and Collins.
