CORK native Adam Idah has been rewarded with his impressive progress at Norwich City with a new long term deal.
The attacker has signed a new contract with the club until the summer of 2023. As well as signing a new four-year deal, Idah has joined up with Daniel Farke’s first-team squad for the upcoming 2019-20 season and will take the number 35 shirt.
Idah was given the news about making the step-up after playing in the Toulon Tournament for the Republic of Ireland Under-21s.
He scored two goals in the prestigious development competition as Ireland made it through to the semi-finals, under the management of Stephen Kenny.
“After Toulon, I got given the news that I would be training with the first-team.
"I was told it would be for the first few days but the other day, I was told it would be permanently," said Idah to the official Norwich City website.
“I’ve definitely had to pinch myself at points.
"A week ago, when I was at home and packing my bags to come here, it didn’t seem real.
“Coming into the changing room a couple of days ago was surreal, but I’m very happy to be back now.
“I’m delighted to sign a new deal here.
"The moment they offered me a new contract, I knew straight away that I wanted to sign it.
“I’ve loved every minute here so I’m delighted.
"My form last season was great and I’ve worked very hard to get myself to where I am now.
“I’m delighted to be in the position I am now.
"Last year helped me a lot to get me to this position.
“There are lots of people who have helped me.
"The staff have been great to me and even through the tougher times, they’ve helped me through it.
Idah moved to Norwich in 2017 and has spent the past two campaigns lining out with the U18 and U23 sides at the club.
He’s had a very impressive record in front of goal since joining Norwich, including 13 goals in all competitions last year.
The reward for Idah for his attacking exploits is being given this long term deal.
He would have been part of the Ireland U-19 squad for the upcoming European Championships but Norwich want him to stick with the senior team for their pre-season.
The next few years look very promising for Adam Idah and he will seek to maintain his predatory instincts in front of goal for both club and country.
