Cork duo Hill and Bulman set to take part in World Snooker Federation shootout

TWO of Cork’s rising snooker stars will feature in the World Snooker Federation shootout at the end of the month.

Sponsored by BetVictor, this is always one of the most exciting professional ranking events each season, and runs at the Watford Colosseum on February 20-23.

Hill, from the Crucible snooker club, and Bulman, Youghal CYMS, will ensure there’s a strong Leeside interest in the tournament.

Both playersreceived theirinvitations from the WSF on Wednesday and they now have an opportunity to play in this speed version of the game with shot clocks and fast potting.

It could be a nice little earner too for the two young guns as they gear up to head to Portugal for the European Championships two weeks later.

With a prize fund of £171,000 and a £50,000 cheque for the winner, anything can happen in this format of snooker, which usually has a lot spectator inter-action during the frames in a fast and furious atmosphere.

It’s hard to know if the format of the 10-minute frame will suit Hill or Bulman, but one thing for sure is if you snooze you lose in this style of snooker.

European champion Hill said: “I am delighted to be invited to the shootout. It really is a fun event, but it’s the 12th ranking event of the season so it is important.

“If you can get a run in the shootout it is great, but it is a wide open competition and you need a lot of luck, but I am looking forward to it and I suppose I will to have to practice as best as I can for it.”

Bulman hit the headlines in recent months when he got to take on snooker legend Ronnie O’Sullivan in a high-profile televised game in the UK Championship.

The 2020 BetVictor will be live on Eurosport and Sky Sports at the end of the month when the Rebel cue-men go for glory.
