CORK boxing will be aiming for two 69kg titles at the Liffey Crane National Elite Championships at Dublin’s National Stadium on Friday night.
Leeside welter Callum Walsh meets Antrim’s Commonwealth finalist Aidan Walsh for the vacant belt at the home of Irish boxing after sensationally knocking out Drogheda’s Eugene McKeever at the Stadium on Monday night.
The Riverstown BC man found the target with a massive hook in the second frame and McKeever went down and was counted out.
The win sees Walsh join Macroon southpaw Christina Desmond in Friday’s finals.
Desmond, who boxes out of the Fr Horgan’s BC, faces Offaly’s Grainne Walsh in the women’s Elite welter final.
The three-rounder is a repeat of February’s decider which Desmond won in Dublin. Walsh was slated to meet Cheyanne O’Neill in the last four but received a walkover, while Desmond, the No. 1 seed, received a bye into the finals.
Callum Walsh, meanwhile, won two fights en route to his showdown with the 2018 Commonwealth silver medallist.
