YOUGHAL snooker star Ross Bulman can't wait to take on his hero Ronnie O'Sullivan.
The brilliant young Leesider faces one of the greatest players of all time in the Barbican Centre on Thursday evening.
Irish snooker legend Ken Doherty can't wait to see Bulman against the Rocket.
“It is great to see Ross playing Ronnie,” said Ken Doherty. “I played him last year and I should have won that game.
“Ross will have to approach his match looking like it means nothing to him on the outside and it means everything to him on the inside. It is going to be very exciting for him and he is bound to be nervous, but he just needs to play his game and enjoy the moment.
“Everybody wants to play Ronnie, the atmosphere will be great and I have seen Ross play a little and he is a good young player. He did well in Belfast so I hope he enjoys it and I wish him the best.”
Bulman flew out of Dublin on Wednesday morning to Leeds-Bradford and then makes the 50 minute journey north to York.
“I am really looking forward to travelling tomorrow and it will be nice to get there,” said Bulman. “I haven’t thought about how the game will go at all, I play every frame to win, that is the way I have always played and I will do my best at the UK Championship.”
The chairman of World Snooker, Jason Ferguson has been impressed with the Youghal player's introduction to big time snooker.
“The tour always welcomes new talent and our feeder structures including tournaments and development programmes organised by the WPBSA and the World Snooker Federation exist to encourage this by providing inspirational opportunities for elite talent to progress.
“I would like to congratulate Ross after he took full advantage of his wildcard opportunity at the Northern Ireland Open by winning his first match and wish him the best of luck at the upcoming Betway UK Championship in York when he takes on the defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan in the opening round.”
According to the Eurosport website the game will be live this Thursday evening at 7.30pm.
