Fr O’Neill’s 3-22 Broadford 0-14

AFTER a tough quarter-final match against Limerick’s Blackrock last week this was much more straightforward for Fr O’Neill’s.

They swatted aside the Clare champions Broadford in Midleton in some style to make it through to the AIB Munster Intermediate Club Championship final, where they will meet Waterford’s Ballysaggart in two weeks.

This was top class stuff from the men from Aghavine who in front of a crowd in excess of 1,500 in Midleton in a wonderful atmosphere put on a show of hurling that confirmed the gulf in class between these two sides.

In the opening 10 minutes O’Neill’s were six points clear without reply and it took Broadford a full seven minutes to register a score.

Broadford did raise a couple of white flags, but O'Neill’s responded in cruise mode on every occasion.

Five minutes before the break there was three points between the sides as Shane Taylor got the Clare champions into contention, but then with devastating efficiency O’Neill’s finished the game before half time.

A goal from Billy Dunne, followed by a point, then seconds later a goal from Deccie Dalton and a then a further two scores added to leave twelve points between the sides at the short whistle.

Broadford to their credit did come out in the second half a score three further points without reply, but then again O’Neill’s just upped a gear and kept the score board ticking over nicely, especially through Dalton.

He scored 1-12 on the day, more than the Broadford total.

As the game petered out it was just shooting practice for O’Neill’s with scores for Paudie McMahon, Jason Hankard and Dalton.

The Ladysbridge party continues as the next opponents will be Ballysaggart another one for O’Neill’s supporters to look forward to.
