Bandon Grammar School 0 Rockwell 24

ROCKWELL made it safely through to the quarter-finals of the Clayton Hotels Munster Schools Senior Cup after a deserved win over Bandon Grammar School at Musgrave Park.

For Bandon this is the end of their season but they did battle to the finish but were unable to break down a solid Rockwell defence.

Rockwell did all the damage in the opening half racing into a 17-0 lead despite playing into a strong wind and a try by winger Peter Wall five minutes into the second half ended any hopes of the west Cork side staging a comeback.

Bandon did have their share of possession in the opening half but when they got into scoring positions they coughed up possession either by knock-ons or conceding penalties.

There was a minute’s applause before the game for the late Cameron Blair a former pupil of Bandon Grammar.

Rockwell broke the deadlock after four minutes when a break by Adam Maher was stopped short of the line; the ball was recycled out the backline where winger Tom Tobin touched down in the corner for a 5-0 lead.

Sam Tarleton was proving dangerous in the center for Rockwell and combined with Joshua O’Dwyer and Tobin to nearly score again shortly after.

Bandon were enjoying dominance at scrum time but when they got into scoring positions silly errors proved costly.

It was 12-0 on the half-hour mark when following a line out and maul Cathal Kelly touched down in the corner and John O’Sullivan converted.

Just on the stroke of half time O’Dwyer made the extra man to send Dean Fanning in for a try to leave it 17-0 at the interval.

Five minutes into the second half Peter Wall got in from a scrum for Rockwell’s fourth try and O’Sullivan converted.

Despite playing in the wind Bandon tried hard to break their duck with Joshua Dalton and Adam Murphy prominent.
