Cork GAA in mourning after the death of Bantry and Rebel stalwart Terry O'Neill

The Bantry native was a member of Conor Counihan's backroom team when the Rebels captured Sam Maguire in 2010 and had the honour of bringing the cup back to the town on the Tuesday after the All-Ireland, led by fellow club man Graham Canty, who captained the side.

Terry O'Neill witnessed his own club, for whom his sons Damien and Shane played, make a breakthrough in the Cork championship with two senior titles in the 1990s, on the back of an IFC triumph in 1993 and success at U21 level.
Renowned as a straight-talker and passionate about football in the Carbery division, O'Neill served with a number of Cork managers before helping Conor Counihan guide the Rebel seniors to ultimate glory, along with Jim Nolan, Ger O'Sullivan and Peadar Healy, in 2010.

He was the dear brother of Cornie, Barry, Brendan and the late Derry.
"Sadly missed by his loving family, Yvonne, grandchildren Jack, Paddy, Owen and Daniel, Caitlin and Meghan, aunts Sheila and Theresa, sisters-in-law Noreen and Gretta, nephew, nieces, relatives and a large circle of GAA friends," read the notice on rip.ie.

He is reposing in Coakley’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, on Thursday from 6pm, and on Friday from 6pm, followed by the removal to St Finbarr’s church, Bantry.
The requiem mass takes place on Saturday at 12pm followed by the burial in the Abbey Cemetery.
