Seven Cork players in Irish basketball underage squads

SEVEN Cork players have been included in the extended panels for next year’s Irish basketball U16 and U18 squads.

Four Ballincollig basketballers, two from Neptune and one from Blue Demons will train with the national squads in a bid to make the trips for next summer’s game in Europe.

Leesider Paul Kelleher is at the helm of the U18 team, while former Neptune and Demons coach Pat Price, currently in charge of Tralee Warriors in the Super League is the U16 coach.

Brendan Dounala, Jamie Cotter and Isaac Eroutteh from Ballincollig are in the U16 set-up, along with Demons’ Cian O’Sullivan.

Neptune duo Eli Lenihan and Seán McCarthy are featured along in the U18s with Luke O’Sullivan from Ballincollig, and a younger brother of National League player Daniel.

On Thursday night former Neptune underage sensation and Irish U16 and U18 international Sean Jenkins made his Division 1 college basketball debut with Presbyterian College.

The 19-year-old rookie from the northside hit his two three-point attempts to the tune of six points in his first appearance.
