CORK'S young golf sensation Sean Reddy was a back on the winning trail earlier this week when he won the Irish Junior Open Winter Tour event at Portmarnock Links.

Golf at this time of year can be tough and Monday was no exception and the competitors battled showers, wind and the cold on the top class links course.

Taking advantage of the mid-term break, the 12 year-old golfer got his first win of 2020 in early.

Playing from the red tees, Sean went around the 5,000 yard course in level par.

That was more than good enough for first place as he led the field by four strokes.

Thanks to Monday's win, Sean has also earned a place in the Champion of Champions tournament which will be held in Powerscourt in April.

It promises to be another busy season for Sean, in addition to the Irish boys schedule of events he’s also planning to play in the English and Scottish Under 14 Boys Opens.

Sean has used the autumn and winter to continue working on his game.

As well as working with the Munster coaching panel, he’s a regular in the Academy in Fota Island and works closely with Peter O’Keeffe.

The hard work in the off season seems to be paying early dividends.

The nine handicapper from Douglas had an exciting season last year, and after several wins and strong finishes he saw his handicap tumble from 15 to 9.

It promises to be another exciting year for Sean when the season proper starts in April.
