St Colman's 0-15 John The Baptist, Hospital 0-6

ST COLMAN'S are through to the Harty Cup quarter-final after digging out the result they needed at Kilfinane in atrocious conditions.

The Fermoy school advance as runners-up from their group to Thurles CBS, which was a fine achievement considering they fell to a heavy loss in the opening fixture.

Heavy rain before and during the first half made for a very slippery surface. Hospital opened with early points by Darragh Butler and Pa Reale but St Colman's were quick to get on terms.

They had early points From Dylan Collins and Dan Roche though Ethan Dorney with a long-range point edged the Limerick side ahead.

Cormac tied the game again and from here on St Colman's got to grips with the underdogs.

Darragh O'Leary was very prominent in defence but Colman's had five wides though gained the advantage when Darragh Flynn pointed from a free and then from play in the 25th minute.

A great solo run by Darragh O'Leary saw Colman's move three clear. In the closing moments, Darragh McAuley pointed a free with Leon Doocey scoring for Fermoy after good work by Ben Nyhan as they led 0-7 to 0-4 at the break.

On the resumption, the rain eased off a little and Colman's with Jake Carr, Darragh O'Leary, Flynn and Doocey impressing.

Points by Carr (3) and Flynn (2) made it it 0-12 to 0-4 after 48 minutes. Hospital had their first score of the second half a pointed free in the 50th minute.

In the closing moments, Flynn and Darragh McAuley exchanged frees in a dour game where both defences were very solid.

Overall John The Baptist forwards lacked penetration in front of goal, which was the key difference.
