Double delight for Cork boxing with two Irish U18s titles secured in Dublin

CORK boxing did the double and claimed two Irish U18 titles at the National Stadium in Dublin at the weekend.
Brian Dillon's BC middleweight Patrick Lawlor and Togher BC light-welter Leanne Murphy had their hands raised in victory on 3-2 split decisions at the home of Irish boxing.
The wins will see both boxers, barring injury, line out for Ireland at the European Youths in Montenegro in April as the IABA are using the U18s as part of their selection process for Montenegro.

As the verdicts suggested, the 75kg finals with Dublin's Nicole O'Sullivan and Eoghan Lavin of the Balyhaunis BC went down to the wire over three,three-minute rounds last evening.
But three of the five judges went with the Leesider pair on the final night of the tournament completed over 94 bouts over the last four weekends in Dublin.
Mick O'Brien, President of the Cork County Boxing Board, was thrilled to see two Irish belts making their way back to Cork in a winning start to the New Year for Leeside boxing.
"Congratulations to Brian and Leanne on winning two Irish titles at the National Stadium. The finals were close, but both young athletes came through with flying colours," he said.
"Congratulations also to the coaches and staff at the Brian Dillon's and Togher clubs on another successful tournament in Dublin.
"It is a fantastic start to the New Year for Cork boxing, and I am confident that our athletes will add to those Irish titles as the year progresses."

Cork and Limerick flew the flag for Munster after securing three of the 22 gold medals on offer at the Stadium.
