LEESIDER and Sheffield United defender John Egan is reported to be attracting the interest of Everton.
The Merseyside club, who have appointed Carlo Ancelotti as their new boss, are understood to be targeting a defender in the January transfer window and they see Egan as a decent potential addition.
Egan has been one of the standout performers for the Blades so far this term at the heart of the defence, as the former Greenwood man has proven he is more than capable in top-flight football.
Sheffield United are having a fantastic campaign, as they are currently in fifth place in their first campaign on their return to the top flight.
Only Liverpool and Leicester City have a better defensive record so far in the 2019/2020 Premier Division season and Egan has played a central role in that solid backline for Chris Wilder's side.
Everton are badly in need of some defensive reinforcements, with the likes of Michael Keane and Yerry Mina struggling badly at times this season.
However, Sheffield United boss Wilder feels that the club can resist any big-money deals for their players.
“I’d think that 75 percent of clubs in this division, and possibly more, in financial terms, could offer better deals,” said Wilder.
“But I’d like to think the players would look a little bit deeper than that.
“We want to keep our best players. We want to continue building and I’m grateful to the board for their support in that.”
Everton would be able to offer Egan a more lucrative wage than what he is currently on, with Ancelotti sure to have been promised some backing in the transfer market.
But Wilder has described how he is not worried about his players attracting interest from elsewhere and Egan is one of a number of players who have been offered new deals to tie them down at Bramall Lane.
