Cork snooker sensation Aaron Hill can't wait to get going on the World Tour
Cork snooker star Aaron Hill with his parents Stephen and Doreen. The talented youngster is looking forward to getting the chance to really celebrate his European double.

AARON HILL became a double European champion a month ago in Portugal.

The talented youngster pulled off an astonishing feat, defending his European U18 title, before adding the European U21 title. In doing so, he acquired an automatic two-year Pro-Card but because of the Coronavirus outbreak the Cork snooker superstar hasn’t had a chance to really celebrate.

“It’s been a little frustrating that we haven’t been able to celebrate the wins or my birthday, but when the time comes we will celebrate both of them in style.

“I practice every day at the moment for a few hours, but there is nothing like competitive snooker so there is always a chance that the game may get a little predictable.

“I am so thrilled to have secured a place on the World Snooker Tour for the next two years and I can’t wait to get going.

“I have been self-isolating just like everyone else and doing all the right things and I am grateful that I will get the chance to play snooker as a full-time job when this is all over. I couldn’t have done that without the support and love of my family with my father Stephen and my mother Doreen fully behind me.

“I also wouldn’t have got to this place in my game without my great sponsor Tomás Singleton who has believed in me and supported me all the way.

“I am very thankful to him and my close friends and my brothers at the Crucible, Ryan Cronin, Greg Casey, David Cassidy and Daniel O’Regan. When we won the All-Ireland club championship last January at the Gleneagle Hotel I was thrilled to be part of that winning team in what was my last time playing amateur snooker in Kerry.

“It certainly has been a fantastic year so far and the quicker we get back into competitive snooker the better for everyone.”

Hill has received praise from the superstars of the professional game too and a lot of these household names are looking forward to playing the talented Cork cueman.

Words of praise have come from the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Allen.

One thing for sure is that when it comes to Aaron Hill he is a Corkman through and through and will never forget where he has come from.

He has a very close circle of friends and family around him, people he can trust and that will be vitally important going forward.

Aaron has always since he started to play snooker been part of the Crucible family and has always been very much a team player. This year when the Crucible lifted the All- Ireland snooker club trophy in the Gleneagle Hotel he was named Player of the Tournament.

His team mates Greg Casey, Ryan Cronin, Daniel O’Regan and David Cassidy are thrilled to see the young star take flight into the professional ranks and who better to ask about what Aaron Hill has achieved.

Casey said: “He is a fantastic kid, not just his snooker ability but also as a person. He’s one of my best friends in snooker and outside snooker.

“I class him as a brother to me. What he’s achieved already in his career is amazing and it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Aaron has something special. The best way I could describe it is that you can’t buy it, you can’t practice to get it, it’s just a gift that he has been given.

“When you practice hard and have the determination and will to win like he does on top of that it’s a very dangerous combination! I have no doubt in my mind we will be hearing a lot more about him in the next few years as he has the game to put it up to any of the professionals”

Ryan Cronin is a regular practice partner with Hill.

“What the man has done is just incredible. We all knew he would be a pro at some stage it was just a matter of when. So happy for him to finally achieve it and to win two European titles in a week is just an outstanding achievement one that won’t be done for another long time.

“To be on a team with him last couple of years has been amazing he is a great team player and never ever lets the team down as we saw in Killarney this year. I think we do very well on the pro tour and I wish him all the best.”

Daniel O’Regan is another close teammate of Hill.

“It’s the stuff of dreams. Nicest guy you could ever meet, a great friend and I have no doubt he will get to the very top! Aaron worked hard to get to where he is and nobody deserves it more.”

David Cassidy is a long-time admirer of Hill. “Aaron is an unbelievable snooker player. What he has achieved over the last few years is incredible, winning Irish ranking tournaments and European tournaments just shows how good he is.

“It only comes down to how hungry and determined a player he was in that time. It was only a matter of time before this all happened and he will I have no doubt go straight to the top.”
