CORK CITY manager Neale Fenn is keen for his team to show their true capabilities as Finn Harps visit Turner’s Cross on Friday night (7.45pm) and has called on the club’s fans to give their backing.

Having lost their first three SSE Airtricity League Premier Division games to Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers, and Dundalk, City are bottom of the table and without a goal while the week has been dominated by talk of a takeover by Trevor Hemmings.

However, Fenn believes that the clash against Ollie Horgan’s side will show the Rebel Army faithful what he is trying to achieve.

“I’m determined to approach it like it is, I want to go and beat them,” he says.

“I feel we’ve learned a lot of lessons over the last couple of games, I want us to go out there and show a true reflection of what we’re all about.

“The last couple of games have been difficult anyway, I’m not saying Finn Harps is going to be easy, but it’ll be a better reflection of where we’re at.

“We’re hoping that the fans will come out and give us the same tremendous support as always.”

The discourse around the potential takeover hasn’t been a distraction to the team or management.

“We’re doing what we’re doing,” Fenn says, “we haven’t had much time to think about anything else.

“We’ve just been preparing for matches and trying to pick the boys up after a bad defeat on Friday and the game on Monday.”

Harps have four points after two games and weren’t in action on Monday night as their clash with Shelbourne was postponed. Fenn insists his side will show a positive approach, though.

“I think the onus and the pressure is on us to take the game to Finn Harps,” he says.

“I think they’ll be dogged and sit in and be difficult to break down, from the games I’ve watched that’s what I would expect, similar to the end of last season when we played them.

“I’d expect no different from them, I don’t think they’ll come out and take the game to us, it’ll be up to us to try to get a goal and break them down.

“They’ve had a great start, all credit to Ollie and Hegsy [Paul Hegarty] up there. They’ve got a system, a way they like to play and they’ll be difficult to break down.”
