MAN City have been the best team in the Premier League in recent years.

They’ve been the most entertaining team to watch and have won four out of the last eight league titles. However, it’s not been all plain sailing for City having been relegated from the top-tier in 1998 before making the return to the Premiership in 2002.

City flirted with relegation for years on their return to the top-flight but all of that changed when Sheikh Mansour purchased the club in 2008 and transformed the club from battling relegation to being the best team in England. His wealth also allowed City to purchase some of the best players in the world, three of which have been City’s greatest players during the club’s time in the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero has been the best finisher in the Premier League era. It’s not often the Argentinian misses an opportunity to score which is why he is the club’s all-time top scorer with 254 goals.

Aguero also broke another record earlier this year by becoming the Premier League all-time overseas leading scorer. Besides his deadly finishing, his movement in the box to create that extra yard for himself or get on the end of a crosses, is second to none. His work-rate and linkup play were questioned by City manager Pep Guardiola but Aguero rose to the challenge and has improved those attributes.

Aguero will always be loved by City supporters for his 94th-minute title winner goal against QPR in 2012.

Although his City career was plagued by injuries, Vincent Kompany proved during his time at City, to be one of the greatest defenders to play in the league. The Belgian was a one of those defenders, much like Virgil van Dijk, who made those who played alongside him better players.

Sometimes, people only realise how good a player is after he has left the club and this is certainly the case with Kompany. His departure to Anderlecht last summer has exposed City’s defensive frailties and also the lack of a true leader in the team.

When David Silva arrived at the club in 2010, the Spaniard already had a glowing reputation as a talented player but his development at City has exceeded everyone’s expectations. Silva is the player that has made City tick over the past decade. The player that controlled games and found that killer pass.

The midfielder is simply a wizard and could do things on a pitch that fans thought were impossible. Silva announced that he will be leaving City this summer and he will be difficult to replace.

Hopefully, the league can resume and the Spaniard can get the send-off he deserves.
