Cork soccer: Passage hoping to have their 4G pitch ready for next year
Passage AFC are developing a new astro pitch for the young soccer players in the area.

PASSAGE AFC are currently planning to install a new 4G Astro Pitch at Rockenham Park in the summer of 2021.

This is a significant undertaking for the club and it will involve a €300,000 investment in the club facilitates. The completed development will provide a superb facility for Passage’s 350 players, 24 teams, coaches, volunteers, club members, parents and supporters not to mention the local community.

Passage is formally launching its astro fundraising drive in August and the club will be looking for people to Sponsor ‘A Square Metre’ to boost their funds for the project.

The club originally secured a €74,000 Sports Capital Grant in November 2019 for the development of a full-size astro at Rockenham Park. The provision of the pitch is seen as a game-changer for those involved in the club as it will significantly improve the playing and development opportunities for the young players playing for Passage.

The new development will mark a big milestone for the club too as Passage heads towards its 50th Anniversary in 2022. The goal for the club is to raise €60,000 by getting each of the 6,000 square-metres of the pitch sponsored and the club sees this fundraiser as crucial in terms of the project being a success.

In return for the support, sponsors will be acknowledged right across Passage’s social media platforms and a Largescale pitch graphic advertising the names of all those who supported the project will be displayed in the clubhouse at Rockenham Park for the next 10 years.

The club members are hoping to secure the €60,00 over the coming 6 months and club chairman Alan Lehane is confident their aims can be met.

“We are all looking forwarded to the developments at Rockenham Park and we are formally launching our fundraising drive in August with ‘Sponsor a Square Metre’. We have had fantastic support locally already and we are hoping this support continues over the coming months with both individuals and businesses having the opportunity to support us.”

“Historically, Passage have been a well-established senior team but we are seeing huge growth in our schoolboys and schoolgirls section. The new full-size astro pitch would be fantastic for the young boys and girls and the likes of our youths and senior men’s and ladies’ teams too.

“The floodlights at Rockenham Park already give us a huge advantage and with the introduction of a first-rate full-size astro pitch I think we will have excellent facilities for our players to enjoy for the years ahead.”
