Minor football: Inniscarra grabs the goals to advance to Premier 1 semi-final

INNISCARRA secured their place in the semi-finals of the Premier 1 minor football championship after they secured a narrow win against Gabriel Rangers.

Two goals in the opening half proved the pivotal factors in enabling them clinch victory. Stephen Linehan and Mark Linehan netted the crucial goals which helped them hold a four-point lead at the interval. Gabriel Rangers applied incessant pressure in the second half, but Inniscarra held firm.

Inniscarra possess a very strong team who will approach the next round with good confidence The sides exchanged eight points in a competitive opening quarter. Gabriels were indebted to Cork minor duo James O’Regan and Keith O’Driscoll who greatly impressed for their scores. Liam O’Connor was unerring from set plays for the winners. His set piece prowess ensured the sides were level on four points apiece after 20 minutes. Inniscarra finished the opening half brightly. They struck 1-2 without reply in a blistering three minute period. Liam O’Connor struck two points before Stephen Linehan netted following a great solo run.

This moved them five points clear after 24 minutes. The response from Gabriels was strong however as they struck three successive points to reduce the deficit to two points after 28 minutes. Inniscarra netted their second goal in the second minute of injury time following a close range strike from Mark Linehan. This made it 2-7 to 0-9.

Gabriel Rangers dominated for large periods of the second half, but they were repelled by an impressive Inniscarra defence. James O’Regan demonstrated his scoring prowess with a great attacking display. Inniscarra were content to counter decisively on the break. Brian Lowney added late points to secure a hard fought win for an impressive Inniscarra side.
