Kiltha Óg 2-17 Killeagh/Ita’s 3-11
KILTHA ÓG’s corner-forward Jack Leahy and Killeagh/Ita’s Colm Leahy were the standout players in a top-class P2 minor hurling championship clash.
However, when the final whistle sounded the Dungourney and Castlemartyr amalgamation emerged into the semi-finals, where they'll meet Kanturk. St Colman's were the other side to progress to a clash with Newcestown.
Kiltha Óg took first blood seconds in with a point and then a minute later were four points clear when James Ahern placed the ball into the bottom right corner for the game’s opening goal.
Killeagh/Ita’s responded with a point and a free and a well-guided 65 from Jamie Fogarty and then it was Kiltha’s chance to shine with two Jack Leahy points from play and another from Ahern.
Kiltha Óg dominated after the water break with another four unanswered points and led by eight points with five minutes remaining in the first half.
The next few minutes saw two great goals, the first from Andrew Kelly for Kiltha Óg, but instantly a Killeagh/Ita’s rally pulled out a point and a Colm Leahy goal to see just five points between the sides at the short whistle.
Killeagh/Ita’s came out with all guns blazing in the second half and had the momentum knocking over the scores and then a second goal for Leahy and a lovely point from Brian Murphy left the minimum between the sides with seven minutes remaining.
Kiltha looked to Jack Leahy and he didn’t disappoint with two very important late scores.
They just did enough to hold back the Killeagh/Ita’s onslaught where time after time the excellent Ciaran Joyce bailed his side out of trouble with some amazing defending from the centre-back position.
