Bandon 1-12 Clyda Rovers 0-6

BANDON got their Bon Secours Cork Senior A FC campaign off to a winning start at Ballyanly last night.

From start to finish they were by far the better side with impressive displays from the likes of Mark Sugrue and Mark O'Regan up front, with Peter Murphy dominating at the back, and David Crowley working hard at midfield.

They took the lead two minutes in when O'Regan pointed and they doubled their advantage when Sugrue pointed from a free. They kept up the early pressure and made it 0-3 to no score when the other member of the full-forward line Ronan Crowley scored.

They were dominating at this stage and Sugrue got his second, and their fourth to increase their lead.

Sugrue was involved in their opening goal when he caught for the first mark by a forward and his resultant shot was fisted to the back of the net by O'Regan, to make it 1-4 to no score.

Crowley and Sugrue both pointed again, before Conor Flanagan got Clyda's opening point with 23 minutes gone.

But before that the water break came and with it the sin-binning of Clyda's Kenneth Fitzgerald for something he said to the referee.

Bandon made full use of the extra man and two more from Sugrue stretched their lead further, 1-8 to 0-1.

Conor Corbett pulled a point back for Clyda with Robert O'Driscoll getting the last score of the half as Bandon led 1-9 to 0-2 at half-time.

With the match effectively over by half-time, the second half was low scoring with Crowley getting the first point to increase Bandon's lead, before Corbett pulled one back for Clyda, from a free.

Sugrue was on target from a free and he scored from play, with 41 minutes gone, to make it 1-12 to 0-3.

Bandon didn't score again, but in reality, they didn't have to, as Clyda were guilty of some poor wides.

It took until the 58th minute for the next score to arrive, with Paul Cronin scoring for Clyda. Cian O'Sullivan and Corbett both added points but they were no more than consolation scores at this point as Bandon ran out deserving winners.
