Nemo Rangers 2-17 Bishopstown 0-6

NEMO Rangers eased their way past a disappointing Bishopstown side in the Bon Secours Premier SFC at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday.

The gulf in class between the teams was immense and if Ken O’Halloran hadn’t produced four great saves it could have been even worse.

The opening exchanges were interesting though, as Bishopstown showing incredible intensity and when Brian Clifford scored a point following a superb Michael Aodh Martin save in the seventh minute, they edged into a 0-2 to 0-1 lead.

Dara Costelloe raised another white flag soon after.

Gradually the champions clicked, with Luke Connolly finding his range.

Town were prone to some high tackling, Michael Power receiving a black card and Eoghan Deasy a yellow.

Paul Kerrigan sent a pinpoint pass to Stephen Cronin, who placed the ball with ease to the corner of the net.

On the stroke of half time, O’Halloran produced another wonderful save from Jack Horgan: 1-8 to 0-5.

On the restart, the Town lost Paul O’Flynn to a black card as Nemo increased the tempo.

Mark Cronin, returning from injury, was in Ballinlough on Monday and scored 2-7 in helping Nemo knock out the champions St Michael’s in the Junior A Championship.

Here he was sheer class and after scoring consecutive points he went on a solo run before billowing the back of the net.

Bishopstown had to wait 26 minutes for their first and only score of the second half courtesy of a Ken O’Halloran 45.

In the end, without playing anywhere near their best, Nemo were easy winners as Bishopstown exited tamely from the championship with one game to play against Valley Rovers.

The champions were simply miles ahead and can now concentrate on their final group game against Douglas.
