Fr O'Neill's 1-20 Bride Rovers 0-16
FR O'NEILL'S picked up their second win in the Co-Op Superstores SAHC at Páirc Uí Rinn last night.
Having defeated Kilworth in the first round their win last night should be enough to see them into the next round of the championship and local bragging rights added in for good measure.
Cork senior player, Declan Dalton, had another outstanding game for his side, with Kevin O'Sullivan and Mark O'Keeffe also in good form in midfield.
Overall they were just too strong for their near-neighbours who know their final group game is now a do-or-die affair for them.
Dalton opened the scoring from a free in the fourth minute, with Jason Hankard adding a second from the restart.
Bride have a half-chance for a goal, with five minutes gone, when a ball across was just behind Cian O'Connor.
They for off the mark a minute later when William Finnegan scored from a 65 and he levelled it with his second point from a free, with Fr O'Neill's Tom Millerick picking up a yellow card for the foul.
Dalton and O'Keeffe pointed for O'Neill's and the former was on target again, to make it 0-7 to 0-3, with 21 minutes gone.
Brian Roche got a magnificent point from distance for Bride Rovers, with Rob Cullinane and Dalton responding.
With 24 minutes gone the telling score of the half came, when a long ball in from O'Sullivan was caught by Dalton and he found the back of the net, to make it 1-10 to 0-5.
Before the restart, Brian Murphy and Dalton were both yellow-carded for a discussion they had over the goal.
Finnegan pulled a point back for Bride Rovers, with Dalton getting the last score of the half as his side led 1-11 to 0-6 at the break.
O'Sullivan increased their lead in the first minute of the second half, with Finnegan and Roche replying for their side.
Finnegan pointed again, to make it 0-9 to 1-12 with 37 minutes gone.
O'Neill's cornerback, Eoin Motherway, showed his forwards how it's done with a fine point from distance.
Billy Dunne increased their lead with Paudie McMahon and Dalton, with the score of the game from a sideline, making it 1-16 to 0-9.
Finnegan pointed another free for Bride, with Daniel Dooley hitting two to reduce the deficit. Finnegan made it 0-13 to 1-16 as Bride enjoyed their best spell of the game.
But Dalton kept his side ticking over with two more before the impressive Roche responded. O'Sullivan and O'Keeffe kept O'Neill's in control, with Finnegan getting the final score as O'Neill's ran out deserving winners.
