CILL Na Martra claim the bragging rights after outgunning neighbours and great rivals Naomh Abán in the opening round of the PIFC at Macroom.

Cill Na Martra held a six-point lead at the break but a magnificent Naomh Abán goal from Diarmuid Ó Ceallaigh ensured a very exciting closing quarter.

In the end Cill Na Martra’s talisman Micheál Ó Deasúna settled his side in the closing stages while also kicking seven points with an excellent individual performance.

The opening exchanges in this game were scrappy as Naomh Abán registered the opening score with a placed effort from Micheál Ó Duinnín. Wind assisted Cill Na Martra took a while to settle but eventually played some excellent football. Micheál Ó Deasúna landed three frees as his side dominated the midfield battle.

Danny Ó Conaill added their first from play with an inspirational run and finish.

Damien Ó hUrdail clipped over another before Ó Deasúna landed a monster effort from out on the sideline. The towering centre forward converted his fifth free which gave his side a 0-7 to 0-1 lead at half-time.

Naomh Abán pointed from the restart with a placed effort from Diarmuid Ó Ceallaigh.

Moments later Ó Deasúna replied before Seán Ó Foirréidh made it a seven- point lead. Naomh Abán’s Micheál Ó Laoghaire kicked a monster score from midfield which seemed to rally his troops.

Minutes later Diarmuid Ó Ceallaigh rattled the net with a beautiful finish and suddenly it looked game on. Micheál Ó Duinnín kept up the momentum by landing a difficult free from distance. A classy score from Diarmuid Ó Ceallaigh left only two points between the sides after 45 minutes.

But Micheál Ó Deasúna held his nerve and converted his sixth free to settle his side as Shane Ó Duinnín popped over the final score for an impressive Cill Na Martra outfit.
