Draghunting's big day, the Puppy All-Ireland title is up for grabs on Sunday

Singleton's SuperValu owner Tomás Singleton presents a sponsorship cheque for the prestigious Puppy All-Ireland  Draghunt Meet, which takes place on Sunday to Damien Wade, Chairman CCHA, and also in the picture is Tom Singleton senior.

ONE of the biggest days in the draghunting calendar will take place at Blarney on Sunday when the Singleton’s SuperValu Puppy All-Ireland will take place.

Despite the season been disrupted this draghunt could have huge implications for two hounds as Samantha’s Rose of Southern/Carrigaline Harriers holds a two- point lead over nearest challenger Jamie’s Gem of Clogheen.

In last weekend’s Puppy draghunt at Newcestown Samantha’s Rose trailing by one point showed her class to defeat her nearest challenger that ensured Sunday’s finale will a little more interesting.

The course at Blarney is a racecourse and will suit hounds that have the pace to drive and finish.

On present form the championship leader will take some beating as she looks a polished finisher but on big days some hounds can rise to the challenge.

Jamie’s Gem connections will be hoping she has the kick to see off all challengers and maybe Ability of Northern Hunt and the Griffin United duo of Curly Sue and Melody will be lively outsiders.

Gerry Murphy’s Guinness of the IHT has improved as the season matured and Timmy McCarthy’s fun run running duo of Sheares Park Has to be Heard and Sheares Park Bring it On will enjoy the open running.

There will also be the annual non winners draghunt and this year will see a rather bigger slip than usual owing to the coronavirus that halted the season from mid- March to June 23.

It has been announced that this years Senior All Ireland draghunt will be hosted at Blackpool.

The decision to nominate the city venue has been met with satisfaction by many trainers and no doubt Damien Wade and his fellow executive members will be working hard with the cooperation of the landowners in this region.

The executive and members of the Cork City and County Harriers association would like to extend its sympathy to the family of Bernie Rall on the death of his brother Michael.

May he rest in Peace.
