Clon are through to the intermediate ladies football decider after derby win

Clonakilty 2-10 Rosscarbery 2-3 

CLON advanced to the LFGA Intermediate final after they secured a hard-fought triumph over local rivals Rosscarbery.

Two goals in the closing stages of the opening half from Aine O’Leary and Orlaith Deasy proved pivotal factors in helping Clonakilty emerge victorious. Clonakilty now proceed to a showdown against Glanmire. 

Clonakilty were worthy winners. They produced an inspired display, full of flair and hard work. They possess a nice blend of youth and experience. They will harbour strong aspirations of county final glory.

Clonakilty started brightly as they raced into a two point lead after 11 minutes following great scores from Ciara Ryan and Orla Lowney. Rosscarbery netted their opening goal in the 12th minute when Hannah O’Hea finished off great play by Laura Mac Mahon. This moved them into a one point lead. Clonakilty restored parity by the end of the opening quarter when Ciara Ryan scored.

Clonakilty restored their lead when ace full back Meabh O’Donovan scored an inspirational point. The response from Ross was emphatic however, as their team captain Sarah Hayes struck a great goal. 

Clonakilty finished the opening half strongly. 

They struck 2-2 without reply which moved them into a commanding lead. Aine O’Leary netted their opening goal following a nice move which featured Moira Barrett. Orlaigh Deasy then calmly converted from the penalty spot.

Rosscarbery forward Tara Maguire struck a late point to reduce the deficit to five points at half-time, 2-7 to 2-2.

Rosscarbery fought gallantly in the second half. They applied incessant pressure, but they were repelled by a well organised Clon defence. 

Ciara Ryan added two further points before Cork underage star Millie Condon secured their victory with a late point.
