Inch Rovers 0-12 St Val's 0-8

A SUPERB performance from former Cork player Annie Walsh was the difference between the two sides as Inch Rovers won the Ladies football Senior B championship at Nemo Rangers.

Walsh was outstanding all through and proved a handful for the Val's defence and they found it difficult to stop her.

In the second-half in particular she dominated from centre-forward, scoring nine of their points over the hour and six-in-a-row in that half to ensure her side took the title.

She was ably assisted by the likes of Jessica O'Shea at centre-back and Rachel Fogarty in goal. Fogarty was coolness personified when Val's played in a few high balls to try and get back in the game and she caught them to quell the danger.

In fairness to Val's they battled all through with Ciara McCarthy the pick of their side, with Ciara Hughes and Mairead Corkery working hard all through as well.

Another former Cork star, Angela Walsh, got the opening score for Inch Rovers, with Annie doubling their lead.

Val's hit back with two from McCarthy to level it, with seven minutes gone.

Two more from Annie, along with a point from Sarah Harrington put Inch Rovers 0-5 to 0-2 up.

McCarthy, Laura Buttimer, Corkery all scored to see the sides level again before Aisling Kelleher was sin-binned for Val's.

But they didn't let their heads drop and a point from Nicola Dennehy saw them lead at half-time by 0-6 to 0-5.

Corkery got the first score of the second half, but this half was all about Annie Walsh. Two early points from her had the sides level, with 37 minutes gone.

Two more from Annie by the 43rd minute had them in front and by the 49th minute, she fired her club into a 0-11 to 0-7 lead.

With 52 minutes gone Inch were unlucky not to get a goal when Ciara Irwin's shot hit the crossbar, with Chelsea Love well beaten in the Val's goal.

Ciara Barry added a point for Inch with Bernie Conlon getting the last score of the tie for Val's but by then it was no more than a consolation score as Inch ran out deserving winners.
