Valley Rovers 2-17 Douglas 2-3

VALLEY Rovers are Junior County Champions after outclassing Douglas at Ballymaw.

Valleys captain Michelle O’Regan was in sublime form throughout and finished the game with 1-7 to her name. The Kiely twins, Cork seniors, Daire and Eimear clipped over 0-7 between them while Orla O’Sullivan ran herself to a standstill in a brilliant individual performance.

The Innishannon outfit dominated this game from start for finish and after suffering county final defeats in the last two seasons to Donoughmore and Glanmire they were hellbent on winning this one. Valleys controlled the ball from the throw-in and Emer Kiely kicked a lovely point to settle her side.

Moments later a brilliant run from twin sister Daire almost resulted in a goal but her shot went inches wide of the post. Douglas replied with a converted free from Shauna Nagle after Laura O’Brien was fouled.

But Valleys were playing all the football and a super move involving Eimear Kiely and Michelle O’Regan resulted in a penalty. After dusting herself down O’Regan brilliantly found the corner of the net.

Further points followed from Michelle O'Regan (2) and a fine effort from the hard running Daire Kiely ensured the Valleys led, 1-4 to 0-1 after 17 minutes.

Douglas were feeling the pressure and a couple of opportunities resulted in poor wides. Valley Rovers finished out the half in great style with Daire Kiely landing a superb score from out on the wing.

Wing-back Roisin O’Donovan collected a free from the inspirational Michelle O’Regan before splitting the posts for another excellent score, 1-7 to 0-1 at the break.

Valley Rovers kept up the momentum and Eimear Kiely pointed after Daire was denied a goal by a last gasp clearance from Seosai Mulroney. Michelle O’Regan clipped over a beauty before adding two more frees after relentless pressure from the Valleys.

Despite playing into the wind for this half Valleys were spraying the ball around superbly. The Kiely sisters added a point each which gave their side an unassailable lead 1-13 to 0-1 after 40 minutes.

Douglas got a badly needed goal when substitute Ciara McCarthy found the net after a determined individual run. But Valleys replied immediately with points from Eimear Kiely and Orla O’Sullivan.

Valleys scored their second goal when Cliona Reardon reacted quickest after a mistake in the Douglas defence. Douglas got a second consolation goal from Katelyn Holland after good teamwork while Ciara Hartnett and Niamh Lynch also added consolation scores.
