Kinsale 3-6 Kilworth 1-2
KILWORTH made the trip to Kinsale for the U14 C championship final recently.
On a perfect day for camogie the sides served up a highly entertaining contest where Kinsale came out on top but not before being severely tested by a determined Kilworth side.
Kilworth were on the scoreboard fast as they opened the scoring with a point from Orlaith Kenny and they held their lead as both sides battled too hard to find a way past two very determined defences.
Kinsale settled into the game and growing in confidence opened their account with a Maisie O’Callaghan goal and the same player added a point to put her sides three clear at the end of the opening quarter.
Kilworth responded well with Tara Carey pointing a 45 but again Kinsale hit back with a Nora Gould goal and it gave Kinsale a 2-1 to 0-1 at the break.
From the restart, Kinsale extended their lead with three early with Ava McCarthy and Catherine Murphy on target as they kept the pressure on the Kilworth defence.
Kilworth worked hard and needed a score and Orlaith Kenny responded as she finished from an acute the angle to the top corner of the net to give her sides a much-needed lift.
Kinsale battened down the hatches as they sensed a Kilworth revival and they held vital possession to ensure Kilworth didn’t build on their goal. Kinsale needed to put the result beyond doubt and they added a goal with Nora Gould on target before a Catherine Murphy point sealed victory.

Bandon 0-3 St Vincent’s 0-1
IN what was a low scoring contest Bandon had two points to spare at the final whistle over St Vincent’s when the sides met in the U14 C plate final in Ballinlough recently.
As the scoreline indicated both defences were on top and scores were at a premium, indeed all the scores came in the first half with neither team registering a score in the second half, a tribute to the hard work and determination of the backs on both teams who worked hard to deny their opponents any bit of room or space.
It was end-to-end action as the opening half progressed Emily O’Reilly found the range for St Vincent’s with a point but the strong Bandon defence stood firm as St Vincent’s searched for more.
Kate O’Leary converted a 45 and as Bandon kept the pressure on the St Vincent’s defence Maria O’Donovan and Maggie France each added point to put two between the sides and at the break it was advantage Bandon 0-3 to 0-1.
On the resumption, both sides gave it their all on the superb city division’s pitch but with both rear guards standing firm there was no way through and it was Bandon who held on to the final whistle to take the plate after a superb contest.
