CORK defender Colm Spillane is a major doubt for the winter inter-county championship after suffering a hand injury in the PIHC final loss to Blarney.

Spillane, who missed the 2019 campaign for the Rebels, was in outstanding form for his club Castlelyons in recent months as a target-man and scoring threat at number 11.

However he suffered a blow in the early minutes of the county final on Saturday night at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, which derailed his side's chances of repeating their victory over Blarney from the group stages.

Spillane could now need surgery on the hand injury, while his club were defeated 1-20 to 0-15 by a Blarney side inspired by Mark Coleman, who shot 0-14, including five points from play.
