Pa O'Callaghan hits Midleton for 1-13 in league victory for Ballyhea

PA O’Callaghan scored 1-13 as Ballyhea got their first RedFM SHL league win with a 2-23 to 1-13 win away to Midleton on Saturday.

A goal from Maurice O’Sullivan, who finished with 1-6, helped Ballyhea to lead the meeting of the two sets of Magpies by 1-9 to 1-8 at half-time, but O’Callaghan’s points helped them to pull clear in the second half. 

He clinched victory with a second goal at the end, with 1-5 of his tally coming from open play.

Also on Saturday, Sarsfields were 2-14 to 2-9 winners at home to Bride Rovers, making it two wins from two. 

James Sweeney and Aaron Myers got the goals for the Riverstown side while Eoin O’Sullivan finished with six points, Tadhg Óg Murphy got three and Donal English and William Kearney contributed two each.

In Sunday’s only game, Newtownshandrum had a 2-15 to 1-14 win over Na Piarsaigh while Erin’s Own were in impressive form on Friday night, beating Newcestown by 3-19 to 0-5.

There were three Rochestown Park Hotel Division 1 FL games over the weekend. 

On Saturday, Carbery Rangers moved into a share of the lead on five points alongside Ballincollig as they beat Valley Rovers by 2-15 to 2-10, and O’Donovan Rossa made it a three-way tie as they overcame Cill na Martra by 3-16 to 3-9 on Sunday. 

Also on Sunday, Clonakilty were 0-15 to 1-10 winners away to Béal Áthan Ghaorthaidh.
