O'Brien is determined to work twice as hard after picking up an FAI award

WHAT a year it has been already for Cork City WFC soccer star Nathalie O’Brien.

2019 began as a busy period for O’Brien, who was competing both with the international deaf squad as well as English side Doncaster in the Deaf Futsal Champions league.

O’Brien’s performances helped both sides qualify for major tournaments and her rewards are ongoing as she picks up another award.

She first picked up Player of the tournament in the Champions League while playing with Doncaster which was a memorable occasion for her and her family.

She also helped Dave Bell’s Deaf International squad qualify for the World Futsal finals in Switzerland next September and just last weekend she picked up the FAI Football for All award.

O’Brien was thrilled with the award and was quick to praise those who have supported her throughout the years.

“Winning the award was a special occasion for myself and my family,” said O’Brien.

“I honestly wasn’t expecting anything like that at all so it’s a bonus winning that award.

"I have to give a special mention to David Bell and Ben Looney who are involved with the Deaf Futsal.

"If it wasn’t for them, there wouldn’t be any futsal team so they deserve some special recognition.

"Along with all the girls that I play with in Futsal, Ireland and Doncaster as well as my teammates at Cork City.

"They’ve all helped shape me into the person and player I am today.

“This award makes me more hungry and determined to work twice as hard and keep succeeding in soccer and in life.”
