Huge blow for Cork footballers as key forward undergoes hamstring surgery

CORK'S hamstring injury jinx has struck again following news that one of the leading players, Ruairí Deane, is set to miss the Munster championship.

The 42 website is reporting the Bantry Bues player underwent surgery in London to repair the damage, which happened in training before the last game against Derry.

Deane, a secondary schoolteacher in Castletownbere, follows the likes of Brian Hurley and Sean Powter who've had well documented hamstring injuries in recent seasons.

A July comeback date is being suggested for the player, who has been one of the most consistent Cork players this year.

The Rebels' second last league game of the Division 3 campaign is fixed for this Sunday at Páirc Uí Chaoimh where a win over bottom-placed Louth would propel Ronan McCarthy's team into the league final and guarantee them promotion.
