Cork trainer Kieran Lynch celebrates a fantastic double

CORK trainer Kieran Lynch celebrated a marvellous double on Saturday night.

The Tracton handler landed the €25,000 final of the Irish Oaks at Shelbourne Park with Killmacdonagh along with the €10,000 final of the Drive On Tipp Open at Curraheen Park.

Speaking about that very special night, Lynch told The Echo: “Unreal, it’s just unbelievable.

“These things don’t come around too often. We have hardly ever had a runner in the Oaks so to win it with Kilmacdonagh was amazing.

“Rockybay Foley is a very special dog.

“There was a lot of pressure on him but he just did it again. He’s bouncing around after that big win.”

Rockybay Foley was sent off the 9-10 favourite for the feature final at Curraheen Park and the prolific winner landed another major event at the Cork track.

Last year’s Laurels champion, who is owned by Chrissie Slyne, Minane Bridge, posting another sensational winning performance. In control throughout, he cruised home to a four-length success in a flying 27.96.

In recent years, Cork greyhounds have done extremely well in the Irish Oaks and Killmacdonagh was another local winner when storming to victory for Lynch.

Owned by William Hennessy and Tomas Leahy, Ballymacoda, the 4-1 chance led around the opening turns, staying on well, she scored in 28.17.

A huge crowd travelled from Cork to support the Lynch and there were plenty of celebrations after. It will go down as a very famous and special night for the Lynch kennel.
