All About Cork: Eco toilets among motions at Carrigaline MD meeting

A number of issues will be up for discussion through motions placed before next Monday's meeting of Cork County Council Carrigline Municpial District (MD) committee meeting at 3pm in County Hall.

One of the first orders of business will be the nomination of members to the Cork County Local Community Safety Partnership, followed by an update on the progression of road related projects across the district.

Motions up for discussion will include councillor Audrey Buckley's (FF) call for the committee to look at the possibility of introducing 'eco-friendly' toilets in key public locations across the Carrigaline MD. Her motion asks if eco or waterless toilet units would be more sustainable and cost-effective than the current system of hiring and maintaining portals during the summer season.

A motion by councillor Patrick Donovan (FF) asks that the committee consider putting traffic calming measures in place vicinity of Ringaskiddy NS, while a separate motion is seeking information on the air quality monitors in the Carrigaline MD, and if councillors could get a breakdown of how often the air quality is measured and a breakdown results compiled over the pas tfive years.

Support for Pipe Band

Public support and appreciation for the Carrigaline Pipe Band manifested itself last Saturday, when the band held their annual fundraising collection in the SuperValu shopping mall.

The band wishes to thank all those who contributed so generously to their fundraising activity.

The band said it appreciates its sponsorship from David Collins of SuperValu, and would also like to thank all other businesses for their financial contributions during the year.

This is a busy weekend for the Carrigaline Pipe Band, because they have a full day of practice on Saturday, followed by them playing at 11.15am Mass on Sunday.

Active Retirement celebration

Carrigaline Active Retirement Association celebrated its 20th anniversary in style with an afternoon tea party in the Carrigaline Court Hotel last week.

The 60-strong gathering was welcomed by chairperson Adrienne Burnette. Guests included two founding members Barry Cogan and Maura Jones and two very important ladies 101-year-old Ruth Britton and 100-year-old Joyce Looney. The special birthday cake sponsored by David Collins of SuperValu was cut by the centenarians and was an extra treat with tea and coffee at the end of the event.

The afternoon was thoroughly enjoyed by all as they sang and danced the hours away. Well done to Adrienne Burnette, Noreen Lawlor, and Noreen O’Reilly for organising this celebration.
