Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a hit-and-run road traffic collision that occurred in Mallow yesterday which saw one garda hospitalised.

Gardaí have issued an appeal for witnesses following a hit-and-run road traffic collision that occurred in Mallow yesterday which saw one garda hospitalised.

Shortly before 10am, gardaí and emergency services were alerted to a serious traffic collision on the N72 at Spa Glen, Mallow.

An unmarked garda car was struck by a passing car, resulting in injuries to the sole occupant, a male garda in his 40s.

The injured garda was transported to Cork University Hospital by ambulance for treatment.

He has since been discharged.

The occupants of the other vehicle fled the scene on foot and the driver has yet to come forward.

Investigating gardaí have conducted a technical examination of the scene and both cars involved, and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. 

In addition, road users who may have dash-cam footage from the area at the time of the incident are also urged to contact gardaí.
