A CORK punter got off to a flier at the Cheltenham festival by bashing the bookies with a €10 bet that scooped €24,751.

The €5 Each-Way Treble included three winners at the opening day of the festival -  25/1 winner Labaik,  16/1 winner Tiger Roll and the 10/1 winner Tully East.

The customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, placed the bet with Boylesports.

Liam Glynn, BoyleSports spokesperson, said: “Hats off to the lucky County Cork customer who turned their €10 bet into a whopping €24,751. We have to give them a lot of praise for their savvy picking and no doubt they are already celebrating in style.”

“The customer also has an extra reason to smile as they availed of the early price of 10/1 about Tully East, with the Alan Fleming trained and Barry Connell-owned horse returning at an SP of 8/1.”

Tully East was a double celebration for Cork, as jockey Denis O’Regan, from Youghal, was riding the Novice Handicap Steeple Chase winner.

Meanwhile, all racing fans in Cork will be pinning their hopes on Un De Sceaux in the Ryanair Chase tomorrow.

Glanmire man Eddie O’Connell’s brilliant chaser is unbeaten this season and will have plenty of Leeside punters praying the good form continues.
