Garda warning after money stolen from cars in Cork city

A MAN had a substantial amount of money stolen from his car after he was followed from the bank in Bishopstown.

The incident on Friday happened after the man had withdrawn the money from a bank and then left it in his parked car while he went into another business.

It followed a similar incident on Thursday in which a small amount of money was stolen.

The thieves followed the victims as they drove away from their banks and swooped when the parked cars were later left unattended.

There were six such incidents in the Glanmire and Little Island areas in the past two years.

It is believed there may have been other similar attempts that failed because the targeted people had not left their withdrawn money in their cars.

Gardai are warning people to be very careful when leaving banks with money and to be on the lookout for people acting suspiciously.

It is believed Thursday and Friday’s incidents were connected, as a similar car has been linked to both.
