DOZENS of people braved pouring rain to show their respect to the late Martin McGuinness at UCC yesterday evening.

A candle-lit vigil organised by UCC Sinn Féin and Republican Youth remembered the former IRA leader turned peacemaker, who died yesterday morning at the age of 66 after a short illness.

Tri-colours and pictures of Mr McGuinness could be spotted at the amphitheatre on UCC's main campus yesterday evening amid a sombre crowd.

Large crowds also braved snow in Mr McGuinness' home city of Derry yesterday as his coffin, draped in a tricolour, was brought to his home.

A book of condolence was opened at Cork City Hall at 9am today.
